Banner Ironwood Medical Center in Queen Creek, Arizona, broke ground on an expansion project on August 28, aimed at enhancing healthcare accessibility in the community. The project will add over 32,000 square feet to the facility, including a new two-story building connected to the existing emergency department located at 37000 N. Gantzel Road. The expansion is part of Banner Health's commitment to its nonprofit mission and is designed to meet the growing demand for healthcare services in the area.

The new building will feature an interventional radiology suite with pre- and post-operative spaces, along with additional capacity for future growth. The emergency department lobby will also be expanded to improve patient flow and overall experience. "As a fully integrated nonprofit healthcare system, every dollar Banner generates is reinvested back into our communities — not shareholders," said Darren McCollem, chief executive officer of Banner Ironwood.

McCollem emphasized that the additional space aims to reduce wait times, enhance patient privacy, and increase capacity for critical patients, ultimately providing a safer care experience leading up to discharge. The project is being led by architecture firm Archsol and construction company Mortenson, with a completion date set for December 2027. Banner Health operates facilities across multiple states, ranking among the largest nonprofit health systems in the nation and focusing on simplifying healthcare for its communities.
